Established in 1993, Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company (“MEMIC”) stands as a premier workers’ compensation insurer nationwide, safeguarding over 20,000 employers and an estimated 300,000 employees.

Nestled along Portland’s storied waterfront, MEMIC headquarters boasts a bustling community of over 250 dedicated professionals.  M.W.Hoss provided preconstruction and CM services for the re-imagined C-Suite level.  This complex, occupied renovation, driven by Company’s vision for a modern building plan to foster collaboration, converted outdated office and mechanical space into high-end office suites and collaborative meeting areas.  The new, modern architecture incorporates the adaptive reuse of existing historic features throughout.  With a commitment to operational continuity, M.W.Hoss meticulously orchestrated construction activities to ensure uninterrupted functionality of the lower floors and bustling Commercial Street throughout the renovation process.

The project involved the meticulous demolition of existing exterior walls and windows, followed by their reconstruction in 20-foot increments to ensure daily weatherproofing due to the occupied offices below. This complex undertaking took place on the 5th floor of Commercial St. A heartfelt appreciation goes to Cote Crane for their invaluable assistance with multiple lifts of the large skylight, mechanical units, and countertops. Despite the logistical challenges, the project was meticulously planned and flawlessly executed by the team, resulting in a dramatic and immensely rewarding transformation from its original state. The new space now boasts an exceptional penthouse suite featuring a kitchenette, multiple lounge areas, collaborative conference rooms, captivating finishes, and exterior decks with stunning water views
